I translate Spanish into English.
What does this mean? Quite frankly, it means that I transfer the linguistic meaning of the words I see in a Spanish written text into the English language, then I come up with a linguistic equivalent in English, writing it down. Translation is a process of transferring meaning, I believe. It is also not a linear process, given that many revisions need to be performed in order for a text to “sound” natural in English.
What are examples of documents that need to be translated?
Some examples of documents that need translation are birth certificates, official documents emitted from foreign governments, legal contracts between parties, marketing copy, business correspondence, academic texts, literature including poetry, fiction, and nonfiction, tourist brochures, newspaper articles, etc. I don’t profess to be an expert in all of these forms of translation, but I do have experience in many of the types of documents that I listed.
